St. Augustine grass grows fastest in the rainy season, roughly May through October, so that's when it needs mowing most often. In the drier months, roughly November through April, every two weeks is usually enough. We mow every 2 weeks, every 10 days, or monthly, and Tim will help you pick what fits your yard. It grows best when it's cut tall, around 3.5 to 4 inches for most varieties, and we mow it at the right height for your grass. All service is weather permitting, so a storm or hurricane can move a visit.
Every visit includes mowing at the right height for your grass, edging along the driveway and sidewalks, string trimming around beds, fences, and trees, and blowing clippings off your driveway and walkways. If you want more than mowing, we also offer palm and hedge trimming, yard cleanups, and mulch and bed care.
Bush and hedge trimmings always get picked up. Grass clippings are blown off your driveway, sidewalks, and walkways after every mow, so everything is left neat.
It's not necessary, but it's always appreciated.
Never cut off more than one-third of the grass blade in a single mowing. Cutting more than that stresses the grass and can leave it brown and thin. St. Augustine grass does best at about 3.5 to 4 inches, so it should be mowed before it grows past about 5 to 6 inches. In the rainy season it grows fast, so a shorter schedule, like every 10 days, helps keep it within the 1/3 rule.
No. In South Florida, St. Augustine grass keeps growing all year, so there's no month off. Growth slows in the cooler, drier months, roughly November through April, so lawns can go longer between cuts. In the rainy season, roughly May through October, it grows fast and needs mowing more often.
Yes. Along with regular lawn maintenance (every 2 weeks, every 10 days, or monthly), we do one-time mowing for overgrown yards, one-time yard cleanups, and storm debris cleanup.
Most yards run about $50 per cut. That works out to around $100 a month for mowing every 2 weeks, about $150 a month every 10 days, or about $50 a month for monthly mowing. The exact price depends on the size of your yard, how often you want service, and what's included, so Tim gives every customer a free quote after looking at the property. There's no pressure and no charge for the quote.
Yes. After tropical storms and hurricanes we clear fallen palm fronds, branches, and yard debris, and cut back anything that's gotten overgrown. Call as soon as it's safe and we'll get you on the schedule.
Not currently. In Florida, fertilizing and weed control require state certification, and Palm Beach County restricts lawn fertilizer from June 1 through September 30. We focus on mowing, trimming, cleanups, and mulch and bed care.
